Annapolis Film Festival to host Iranian-French ‘Witness’

The 9th edition of the Annapolis Film Festival in the US has been scheduled to screen Iranian-French short flick ‘Witness’.

Directed by Ali Asgari, the 15-minute film will be screened at the “Shorts – Jeopardy” section of the US event.

“With her daughter waiting impatiently in the car, a mother helps an elderly woman in a shopping mall in Tehran. A tragedy occurs, brutally confronting her with the impact of her actions”, a brief synopsis of ‘Witness’ reads.

The script of the short flick has been put together by Asgari and Farnoush Samadi.

Asgari as an internationally-recognized cineaste has already been a jury member at some global events such as the Tirana International Film Festival in Albania.

Also set to compete at the Atlanta Film Festival in the US, ‘Witness’ has so far taken part in a number of global events, including the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, the BFI London Film Festival in the UK, the Minimalen Short Film Festival in Norway, and the monthly Breakout Film Festival in Scotland, where it won the best short screenplay award.

The mission of the Annapolis Film Festival is to encourage the development of all aspects of the creative arts in and around Annapolis through the cinema experience. It will host numerous press visits, industry professionals, and distributors to participate in panel discussions and to be a part of the jury and awards process.

There will also be several opportunities for filmmakers to attend and be hosted as they exhibit their films. There will also be the opportunity to participate in educational events and community outreach programs with the film. The Annapolis Film Festival is seeking a total of 50–70 films to be shown.

The 9th edition of the event is slated for April 8-11, 2021.
